"Hob" Peebles Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 24, 2004, at Pitts Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Pitts Cemetery. The Revs. Jack Dowdy and Royce Freeman will officiate the services. Mr. Peebles died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at his residence. Born July 4, 1920, in Wilcox County, he was the son of the late Clyde Lyston Peebles and Floy Osborne Peebles. He was a farmer and member of the Pitts Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190 F&AM and was former director of Colony Bank. He also was a former mayor of Pitts and a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Laura Peebles of Pitts; two sons, Pete (Kay) Peebles of Pitts, and Furman (Maxine) Peebles of Rochelle; a daughter, Tena Peebles of Douglasville; a sister, Sarah P. Royal of Ashburn; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Frazier & Son Funeral Home of Rochelle has charge of the arrangements.
